Sophia Turek is a sound artist based in Los Angeles, California working to produce narrative through electroacoustic music and sound design. Using environments like the Kyma sound design system, Sophia aims to construct pieces that are less inclined to distinct separation from music and sound and diegetic and non-diegetic, but more inclined towards, as the creator of Kyma Carla Scaletti puts it, "events as recorded, events as experienced, events as remembered, and events as imagined."

Turek's work is shaped by a lifelong engagement with music from extensive classical piano and voice training and popular music songwriting and production to her current explorations in avant-garde sound art. She is particularly interested in how sound can evoke nostalgia, create atmosphere, and forge emotional connections that go beyond personal background.

Before dedicating herself fully to sound, Sophia spent her middle and high school years creating visual art. While this medium has taken a backseat to her current work, she continues to offer a selection of archival prints from this earlier period. These pieces serve as a quiet counterpoint to her sonic explorations, reflecting a consistent interest in texture, atmosphere, and the subtleties of human experience.

Sophia Turek has also recently graduated from the University of Oregon and Clark Honors College with a BA in Popular Music. Her honors thesis project is available to read through this website.
